Jean Claude's current research focuses on (1) analyzing the dynamic of rice yield in the highland of Madagascar, and (2) investigating the rate of dropout and children cognition in developing countries.

In 1999, he obtained a scolarship from the "African Training and Leadership - ATLAS" and went to the "Economics Institute" at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Then, he got admission at the department of agricultural economics at Michigan State University (MSU) starting in the summer of 1999. He successfully defended my Master thesis dissertation titled "The effect of exogenous natural shocks on rice productivity in the Highland of Madagascar" under the guidance of Pr. Mike Weber, Scott Swinton, Tom Reardon, Jack Meyer from MSU, and Christopher Barrett from Cornell.

He went back to Madagascar for two and half years and worked as economist in the ILO: a Cornell University - FOFIFA research project. Preceding his venue at Cornell for my PhD program in the fall of 2003, he actively participated in the Cornell BASIS-CRSP project.
